Creating a drinks company was a dream that I, Shirley White had for some time. OTC Beverages came to life after attending my father’s 80th Birthday in 2017.
The party was a great celebration for my father reaching a milestone. However, I realised that the generation who had created the culture, food and beverages that I had grown up drinking and eating, were getting older and are passing away at a rapid pace, so I felt moved to preserve their legacy, and that’s how OTC Beverages came to life.
My Dad has Parkinson’s Disease, and it’s a real challenge to witness his deterioration. My dad was a hard-working man who went to the gym, ate well and supported his family from an early age working for British Rail as a welder.
He made sure that his family never wanted for anything and we grew up in the North London Borough of Islington living a treasured lifestyle. In addition to the legacy of what my parents have created, I realised they paved the way to make it easier for their children and their grandchildren to have a better life than they had experienced when they first arrived in the United Kingdom.
I also wanted to leave something to remember my father; a strong, peaceful, caring, and family-oriented man from Montserrat and my mother a fiercely independent, strong-willed Jamaican woman.
